I Remember When a Full Set Was $25!

So this is a little bit more of a rant, but this one really grinds my gears when I’m browsing on social media and I see people raging in the comment sections over what nail techs are charging these days.

I’ll see someone post a beautiful @$$ set on their page, flawless execution, plenty of great work in their feed and then there’s all kinds of Negative Nancys telling that artist what they wouldn’t be willing to pay for the quality work that sits before their eyes. It’s annoying.

Back when nail sets were $25 you could also find a studio apartment for like, $500. I swear back then nails used to come in only style… square, square af. You could have a long square nail shape or a short square, but there damn sure wasn’t a coffin nail! Let alone almond, ballerina, stiletto, now there’s even lipstick shape. And the designs that are trending now…. my god! There’s that double ombré French tip design that was big about two months ago, I can’t even imagine what the price of that is for a nail tech who knows their worth.

You know what I else I remember used to be not as expensive.. rent, food… LIFE!

Now, I know there’s a lot of people joining in the beauty industry in the last several several years, and a lot of those people lack professionalism or even talent. We’re not talking about those ones … the ones who don’t sterilize their equipment and will cancel your appointment without notice AND keep the deposit are exempt from this convo.

To the ones who study their craft, treat their clients well, and don’t burn off your nail bed with the drill deserve to charge whatever they think is appropriate and shouldn’t get shit on for it! I just have so respect for anyone in any kind of service industry, but mix in some artistic talent along with having to build your own business.. take my money! If someone doesn’t value the service that’s ok, just keep it pushing.

Anyways I thought I was going to be able to argue for this a little more eloquently, but that’s it.
