Products Of The Week
With the summer season upon us I find myself once again on the hunt for more make up that I probably don’t need but getting ready for the hot girl summer means I need to find the proper products to keep this oily skin from looking too greasy on a long humid day. During these months I tend to go for lighter coverage, more matte finish, and just some thing reliable enough for me to know that it won’t melt away. I was really into the Narrs soft, matte foundation and I’m sure I’ll still rely on that for days when I want a more full coverage effect, but I think this year I want some thing that feels a little bit lighter on the skin. To me, the struggle in finding the right summer combination means finding a product that gives a softer finish and is also pretty matte because it seems like the lighter in coverage we go the more hydrating the makeup tends to be.
I went to Sephora not even looking for a concealer but when I saw the Armani Luminous Silk stand, I stopped and immediately started swatching. I don’t really try products on in the store so of course I was left to try it on my hand, from what I saw it looked beautiful. The coverage seemed very light and I could see some shimmer and luminosity from the concealer but it dried with a matte finish that looked perfect.
The way I like to apply my make up I’ll actually love to start with softer coverage products and just build as needed and, better to start with less and be able to add more than to get too carried away from jump! I’ve been looking for a particular velvety soft, fairly sheer powder, to wear on a daily basis. My favorite powder ever used to be a pressed powder from Mac cosmetics called Select Sheer Pressed Powder and they discontinued it quite some time ago, but ever since then I’ve been looking endlessly for a new replacement. I really wanted this one to be that.
I had come in to look at this powder on a previous occasion and was unfortunately really turned off when I saw the limited shade range. There were only about six colors or so. A huge pet peeve of mine is when companies come out with a new product that they don’t believe has that much coverage so they don’t think they need to come out with as many shades as they would with a product that has a heavier finish. I can see the thinking behind it... You have a softer powder so some more skin will show through so the color doesn’t need to be spot on, with more skin being visible the product will just subtlety blend together. That just does not seem to work out for a lot of people. The color that was the closest to my skin tone ended up being way too orange for me, and since I got this with the intention of using it for when my skin will be getting oily throughout the day, I do not want a product that will only darker as the day wears on.
So when it comes to my review on these products, I’m gonna have to give a thumbs down on both, at least for me in particular. I could tell right away that the concealer wasn’t going to work. It instantly sat in any fine lines, that I don’t want to admit I have, and started to separate within a few minutes of putting it on. Once you have a particular way you like your make up you instantly know when something’s going to sit right and this one gave red flags right away!
The powder from Nars was not what I was hoping for. It does have potential and perhaps I am just too stuck on replacing what I once had, the texture was pretty nice but the lack of colors from such an OG brand may be where I made my mind up. So maybe I am hating?? Idk but I’ll probs return it…
